我们学校 lately been enforcing strict health and safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Every student is required to wear a mask in class, and teachers are no exception. But I, the class monitor, had made a rookie mistake.
I quickly glanced around my bag but it was nowhere to be found. Panic started to set in as I realized that without a mask, I wouldn't be able to teach effectively or maintain social distancing norms. The students were already starting to arrive, and time was running out.
In desperation, I turned on my phone's camera and recorded myself explaining why I couldn't teach today due to not having a mask. It wasn't ideal but at least it would give me some credibility with the students while also ensuring their safety.
As soon as the video ended, I sent it out via our group chat for all students to see. My heart sank as they began sharing their thoughts about my situation online using hashtags like #ClassMonitorWithoutAMask and #StrugglingToTeachWithNoMaskOn.
The irony wasn't lost on me; here was someone who should have been setting an example for others now struggling because of her own oversight. Despite feeling embarrassed about my situation, however much more important than any personal feelings were the well-being of both myself and those under my care during this pandemic era.
Later that day after classes finished up early so we could sanitize everything thoroughly before leaving school premises safely homebound by public transportation (not walking), she posted another message saying "Thanks for understanding everyone!" while promising herself never again forget where she placed things crucially necessary items next time round!
